Here are some pieces I explored with the medium of acrylic painting to improve my understanding on how to portray the subject will colour. From small to large scales, I learn more about what I can highlight but more importantly, the patience that comes with painting.

Dear Mother (2018) 32 inches x 40 inches
From the gentle care, as she lifts the baby up to the tenderness and care expressed through the warm brown and amber colours, I sought to present the love that only a child will ever experience as they are lifted up by the only person to whom they only know her heartbeat, their Mother.

Who Is … Nandi? (2018) 22 inches x 16 inches
This is one in a set of three portrait illustrations which aims to decipher the question as to what each portrait showcases when it’s illustrated in different mediums i.e. pen, digital illustration and a painting. Plus, it also introduces a quarry as to whether the person is still the same or, like the butterfly complimented by her ebony complexion, she’s constantly evolving through each variation yet, still the same person.

She Is Expressive (2018) 32 inches x 40 inches
To stretch my ability to add more details in portraiture, I added the different coloured flowers to help envelope and compliment her complexion. In addition, I focused more on her eyes to draw the person in and in some cases, smile with her eyes.

The Badmon (2018) 22 inches x 16 inches
Inspired by artist and poet Shaquille Arron Keith, this was my first male painting and so I chose him to be the model due to his vigour for life but also the friendship we had. The sky blue background complimented his clothing and complexion adding to his stance to stand out from the crowd but with a subtlety hence the wine marron colour for his shirt.
